Signed Nocturnal Coastal Harbor Seascape Oil Painting in Ornate Gilt Frame

Stunning vintage original oil painting depicting a moonlit coastal harbor at night, where a cliffside town glows against a luminous, cloud-swept sky. Rendered in deep midnight blues with silvery highlights and shimmering reflections on the water, the scene captures all the quiet romance of a harbor after dark, complete with tiny warm lights glimmering in distant windows.

Worked with expressive palette-knife impasto, the architecture and waves carry wonderful texture and depth, while a fine craquelure across the surface speaks to the painting's age and character. The work is signed in script on the reverse, "Capt. R. E. Johnston," and is presented in a beautifully ornate carved and gilded frame with scrolling foliate corners and a linen liner that sets off the moody composition perfectly.

A dramatic, atmospheric statement piece, this painting would bring depth and old-world elegance to a study, gallery wall, mantel, or entryway.
