Reuge Capodimonte Style Musical Cigarette Holder / Dispenser

An extraordinarily rare vintage Reuge musical cigarette dispenser featuring an elaborate silver-plated framework, colorful Capodimonte-style decoration, and a wonderfully theatrical mechanical presentation.

The cylindrical body is decorated with raised, hand-painted figural scenes surrounded by scrolling florals and Rococo-inspired ornamentation. Above, an ornate silver-plated arch supports a chain and pulley mechanism connected to the top. When activated, the musical mechanism slowly raises the decorative lid to reveal a circle of individual cigarette holders concealed inside, then closes again as the mechanism operates.

The underside retains its original Reuge Swiss Musical Movement label identifying the melody as “Lara’s Theme” from Doctor Zhivago (“Love Story”). The underside also bears a Pozzo S. Patrizio label.

An especially dramatic example of mid-century luxury smoking accessories, combining a Swiss Reuge musical movement with ornate Italian-inspired decorative styling. Today, it makes an incredible conversation piece and collectible mechanical object even apart from its original function.
