Musical Cigarette Telephone with Working Lighter

A wonderfully unusual circa 1970s Laurel Japan musical cigarette dispenser, designed in the romantic form of an ornate antique telephone. The richly marbled body is embellished with elaborate gold-tone metalwork, from the decorative rotary-style dial to the sculptural feet and beautifully detailed receiver. Lift the upper portion and the piece transforms, revealing a dramatic fan-style cigarette carousel hidden within.

What makes this particular example especially remarkable is that its original mechanical features are still in working order. The built-in music box plays as intended, while the telephone receiver itself conceals a working lighter, an ingenious detail that makes the piece as entertaining as it is decorative. Finding these elaborate novelty pieces today is unusual in itself, but finding one so beautifully preserved with both the music mechanism and integrated lighter still functioning makes this an exceptional example.
