Victorian Mother-of-Pearl Serving Spoons with Inlaid Horn Handles, Set of Four
A beautiful set of four Victorian serving spoons crafted from luminous natural mother-of-pearl and polished horn, likely dating to the late 19th century. Each spoon features a hand-shaped mother-of-pearl bowl with wonderful natural iridescence, displaying flashes of soft pink, blue, green and silver as it catches the light.
The gracefully curved horn handles are individually decorated with geometric mother-of-pearl inlay, including a small circular inlay at the end of each handle. Brass fittings with traditional riveted construction secure the shell bowls to the handles, adding another lovely detail to these unusual antique serving pieces.
Graduated in size, the collection includes one substantial 8-inch serving spoon, two 6-inch spoons and one smaller 5-inch spoon. Mother-of-pearl serving utensils were prized for elegant table service, particularly for delicate foods and condiments, as the natural shell does not impart a metallic taste.
