German Sterling Silver Figural Sleigh Open Salt Cellar with Cupid and Swan
Exquisite late 19th to early 20th century German .800 silver figural open salt in the form of an ornate Rococo-style sleigh led by a swan with a cupid driver holding delicate chain reins and a raised whip overhead. The interior features a rich gilt wash and retains its original removable colorless glass liner and matching glass spoon.
This incredibly detailed piece is marked to the underside with the post-1886 German crescent moon and crown hallmark alongside “800” silver purity marks and an unidentified maker’s mark, possibly Hanau. The scrolling sleigh runners, cherubic figure, and sculptural details make this feel more like a miniature work of art than a tabletop object.
Measures approximately 4” long x 2 3/4” tall. Total silver weight excluding glass liner is approximately 2.220 ozt.
Provenance includes the estate collection of Dennis Trischler of Woodbridge, Virginia.
