Victorian Wilcox Silver Plate Co. Quadruple Plate Butter Dish

$115.00
The catalog card

An exceptional antique Victorian covered butter dish by Wilcox Silver Plate Co. of Meriden, Connecticut, beautifully executed in quadruple silver plate. The elaborate form features a domed lid topped with an ornate architectural finial, gracefully curved side handles, and four wonderfully detailed ram hoof feet.

The body and lid are engraved with stylized geometric and foliate decoration, while the interior contains a removable perforated insert traditionally used to elevate the butter while allowing melting ice to drain into the bowl below.

One of the most unusual details is the integrated candle snuffer, which rests horizontally across the front of the dish in its own fitted brackets. This combination of decorative tableware and candle accessory makes the piece particularly distinctive.

The underside is marked with the Wilcox Silver Plate Co. crossed-hammers trademark, “QUADRUPLE PLATE,” and pattern number 133.
