Victorian Coromandel Perfume Casket
A remarkable antique Victorian perfume casket crafted from richly figured Coromandel wood with beautiful swirling grain throughout. The casket is embellished with ornate pierced brass mounts and centered with a porcelain plaque depicting a reclining cherub resting among the clouds.
Opening the hinged lid reveals a spectacular deep purple velvet-lined interior fitted with four matching square cut-glass perfume bottles. Each bottle features classic Victorian diamond cutting with star-cut bases and retains its original gilt-gold-toned metal screw-top lid. The contrast of the dark Coromandel, aged brass, vivid purple velvet, and brilliant cut glass makes this an especially striking example.
Dating to approximately 1860–1880, the casket and bottles remain in spectacular antique condition with delicate handling wear, patina, and age-related character consistent with a piece of this period.
