Silver Plated Copper Serving Dish
Antique silver plated copper covered serving dish attributed to Theodore B. Starr, a celebrated New York silversmith active during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Starr was known for producing luxurious silver pieces that rivaled Tiffany & Co., and his work became synonymous with the opulence of the Gilded Age. Pieces like this were designed to sit proudly at the center of formal dining tables in affluent homes, bringing both function and dramatic presentation to elaborate dinner service.
This piece features an elegant domed lid with a sculptural Rococo-inspired finial, ornate scrolling border details, claw style feet, and a beautifully fluted interior basin. The “silver on copper” construction was considered a premium method of silver plating during the era, giving these pieces exceptional weight, durability, and richness compared to standard silver plate.
Measures approximately 10” in diameter and 7” tall.
