Georgian Silk & Chenille Embroidery Picture c. 1790–1810
An exquisite and rare late 18th to early 19th-century Georgian-era silk needlework embroidery picture. The central oval medallion beautifully depicts a classic pastoral scene featuring perhaps a young shepherdess and child, set against a softly rendered rolling landscape.
The central scene is elegantly framed by a highly detailed, hand-embroidered floral garland border featuring classical scrollwork, trailing vines, and delicate multi-colored blossoms. A small, hand-embroidered custom monogram crest sits at the lower center of the composition.
The textile is housed in its original (or period-correct) premium Georgian giltwood and gesso frame, adorned with intricate, repeating geometric and floral relief moldings that retain a magnificent aged patina.
