French Palais Royal Green Opaline Uranium Glass Globe Perfume Casket with Scent Bottles
A truly exceptional antique French Palais Royal perfume casket from the Napoleon III era, crafted in luminous green uranium opaline glass that softly fluoresces in the light. The sphere-form body — rarer than the familiar egg shape — opens on a gilt-bronze hinge and rests on an ornate ormolu and alabaster base adorned with winged angels and scrolling openwork feet, with twin ring handles and delicate rope-twist and beaded mounts. Traces of the original gilded floral decoration still shimmer across the glass.
Lift the lid to reveal the romance within: a fitted set of four clear glass scent bottles, each crowned with a gilt-metal cap set with a tiny hand-painted miniature of a Parisian monument, including the Arc de Triomphe.
A breathtaking statement piece for a vanity, curio cabinet, or collector's shelf — a little jewel box of 19th-century French elegance.
