French Marquetry Perfume Casket
A beautiful antique French Napoleon lll era perfume casket featuring an intricately decorated wooden exterior and three fitted glass perfume bottles. The case is finished with geometric parquetry and marquetry, including a herringbone pattern across the sides and a richly detailed lid centered by a small mother-of-pearl medallion.
The casket opens to reveal a fabric-lined interior fitted specifically for the three matching clear glass bottles. Each square-form bottle is decorated with delicate hand-painted gold floral motifs and finished with a large faceted glass stopper. The bottles have chipping along the lips beneath the stoppers, as pictured.
A gorgeous example of antique French vanity ware, combining decorative cabinetmaking with beautifully embellished glass perfume bottles.
