French Blue Opaline Perfume Bottles on Marble Base
A wonderfully romantic antique French double perfume bottle set featuring two vibrant blue opaline glass bottles nestled within an ornate pomponne mount atop a white marble base. Rich with delicate detail, the gilt metal framework is adorned with scrolling foliage, floral motifs, and charming pink cabochon accents that give the piece an unmistakably feminine and theatrical presence.
Pomponne was a decorative gilt metal alloy developed in late 18th century Paris and widely used in fine French vanity objects, jewelry, and luxury accessories. Pieces mounted in pomponne were designed to imitate the richness of gold while allowing artisans to create highly intricate decorative work.
This example dates to the Napoleon III period and retains both original opaline bottles and stoppers. The vivid robin’s egg blue opaline glass contrasts beautifully against the warm aged metal and creamy marble base, giving the entire piece an elegant jewel-like quality. It feels like something that would have sat atop a lavish French vanity surrounded by silk ribbons, perfume atomizers, and handwritten letters.
Measures approximately 3.5” wide x 2.25” deep x 4” tall.
