19th Century French Louis XVI Style Mahogany Letter Box

A beautiful late 19th century French stationery or letter box crafted in rich mahogany and embellished with ornate gilded brass ormolu mounts. Neoclassical swag-and-tassel garlands frame the hinged lid and continue around the base, giving the piece its unmistakable Louis XVI style.

The hinged lid opens to reveal its original fitted interior with multiple slatted compartments lined in aged green silk, designed for organizing letters, stationery and correspondence. The beautifully worn interior lining and warm patina of the mahogany speak to the piece’s age and history.

A wonderful decorative antique for a desk, library or writing table, and an especially lovely piece for storing letters, stationery or keepsakes.
