Zimbalist Music and Jewelry Box
RARE Vintage Fred Zimbalist Swiss musical jewelry box housed in an ornate Rococo-style cast metal case with intricate floral engravings, pierced openwork detailing, and elegant cabriole legs. Fred Zimbalist was a well known importer and distributor of luxury Swiss music boxes during the mid-20th century, recognized for bringing highly decorative and mechanically sophisticated pieces into the American market. His music boxes are especially admired for their ornate craftsmanship, romantic styling, and quality Swiss movements.
The front door opens to reveal multiple hidden velvet-lined drawers and compartments, giving the piece the feeling of a miniature secret cabinet designed for jewelry, keepsakes, or handwritten notes. Features a working Swiss cylinder music movement that plays “Barcarolle” from Tales of Hoffmann and retains its original “Made in Switzerland” paper label.
A beautifully substantial piece measuring approximately 11” tall x 7.5” long x 4” wide and weighing over 9 pounds, giving it the presence of a miniature piece of antique furniture rather than a traditional music box.
A stunning decorative statement piece for a vanity, dressing table, or jewelry display with incredible old-world charm.
